Sammy and the lads in Wild Youth is around 16 years but they sound as they´re born into punkrock and they look like they have been since 1977. Look and listen to their records and you will love it.....september 2006

History?

-We formed earlier this year in 2006 after my old band Warbux featuring Scott(guitar) fell apart after the drummer and bassist leaving. I knew Dan(bass) and Wellings(drums) from there other band The Nihilists, so I gave them a shout and asked them if they would join me and Scott in starting something new and that’s where we are today.

Please tell me a little about every member, age, family, school(work) and something bad about every one?

-Scott, 16, two sisters, college, he often walks around naked
Dan Smith,16, three brothers, college, when he drinks he gets very violent
Dan Wellings,16, 1 brother, college, he’s a vegetarian
Sam, 16, 1 brother, college, when I´m  tired im cranky

You´re young(16 or what) how does it feels that punk was almost 15 years already when you were born?

-It doesn’t bother me too much that I missed it because we´re just gonna bring back 77 with bands like us and Towers Of London all over again.

Are your parents old punkrockers?

-Well my dad was a punk for many years and he brought me up loving punk and rock n roll music so I decided to mix the influences of both types of music in the songs I write.

What do they think about your music today?

They love the music that I write and the music that we play but a lot of the music that is out there today is boring rubbish we just wanna bring back rock and roll.

Is it a problem to play out when you´re as young as you are?

-Not really, but some venues have a licence law where they can’t have anyone under the age of 18 in the venue after a certain time(stupid rule!) we got kicked out at a venue in Manchester when we were playing with The Towers Of London! Its crazy.

You love Backyard Babies you say, have you heard any other good swedish bands?

-There are lots of good Swedish bands I think that Sweden has a great music scene and I really hope we can play there one day, Swedish bands that I like are Backyard Babies, Hainoi Rocks, The Vains Of Jenna and loads more!

What do you know about Sweden , what is typical swedish?

-Snow, Ikea and saunas

What is typical english?

-Fish and chips, policemen wearing stupid hats and London.

How is it to be young in England today?

-It´s not great really we get people taking the piss out of us because of what we look like, there isn’t really a scene for us except for a few good bands but the old people are nice, we like them!

How is the musiclife in England right now, is there any good bands?

-Yeah there are a few good bands but not loads, were trying to encourage young people today to pick up a guitar and do something special.

You look very punky, is this your lifestyle or what?

-Yeah, I think the name of the band gives it away. People underestimate us because were quite young but it doesn’t stop us from drinking vodka and having a good time, were all a bit mad as well in our own ways so it makes our stage performance different from anyone else’s.

Or is ony punk a word and not a lifestyle?

-Well I think there are some real punks out there and then there are fakers, too us punk is a way of life and an attitude witch makes you stand out from the rest, but some people just haven’t got a clue about punk at all.

Which type of people comes to your concerts, is it only young ones or do you have any older audience also?

-We attract a very wide audience because we get lots of young people coming too watch us mainly girls who fancy us! But we attract the old people in as well because they can relate to what were doing as they were there the first time round when punk started.

Not any record contract yet?

-No not yet, we have had offers but we don’t want to jump at the first offer some fat bald guy gives us, we just want to wait and see what happens and get it properly done.

Is it many interviews? Is it boring?

-No not really we haven’t done many but were glad to do anything to help the band.

Is My space a good way to come out in the world as a band?

-Well yes and no because with myspace its really simple to do and make people aware that you exist, but on the flip side, that means every kid that’s got a guitar in the world and can play three chords has got a myspace and to be honest there is a lot of shit on there u just have to filter through it and record companies cant be fucked to do that.

Wild Youth, comes from a Generation X song or where does it comes from?

-Yeah, it is a song that I loved and my dad went to see Generation X when he was a kid and they came on played 2 songs had a fight and walked off, so he named his old band after them and when I was thinking of names I thought Wild Youth would be perfect for us.

Favoruitebands among the old punkbands in England?

-I love all the old punk bands like the Sex Pistols, The Damned, U.K Subs, The Clash, The Jam, Generation X, Iggy and the Stooges, The New York Dolls, MC5, Blondie, the Buzzcocks, Cocksparrer, and loads of the old bands.

Which is the most important punksong ever done?

-Anarchy in the U.K because it was so outrageous and told the people to do something about the way they were being treated and a song to have that much impact has gotta be a great song.

Do you do any old punksong as covers? Why or why not?

-Yeah we do a cover of Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pistols because everyone can sing along to it and relate to it and it´s just a good time party song to play.

Please rank your five favourite records, five favourite concerts and five most important things in life?

-My five favourite records would probably have to be 1. never mind the bollocks. 2. Bob Marley and The Wailers- exodus. 3. The Wildhearts - Earth Vs the Wildhearts. 4. Buckcherry – time bomb. 5. Oasis – definitely maybe.
My fav concerts have to be Aerosmith at Wembley with The black Crowes, The Sex Pistols in London, Towers Of London at theRrock city, Buckcherry, and Pearl Jam.

-The first record I ever bought was a cd by a shitty pop band called Aqua, the last record I bought was Motorheads new album and I cant remember how much any of the records I have bought were.
