White Light Overdose drives me over with their
new record and it's fun to hear new Swedish
groups that do not sound like everyone else.
Here they have answered a lot of questions from
me. Hope you like what you read and, above all,
you should check out the group's music.
februari-2018
A little story about the group?
-The band was founded in the summer of 2015 by
Mark Adolfsson. We started rehearsing in a small
place in Oskarshamn, then we moved on to our
home town Högsby where we now have our
rehearsals. All members have previously played
in other bands that you have encountered and got
to know in the time, one could say that you
picked up a bunch of strangers and got stuck
with and felt a kind of community with. We are
doing a good job together.
Tell us a little about each member, age, job,
family, band before and band on the side?
-Mark, who is the
guitarist and he is 31 years old, works
as a painter and has a daughter of 4 years.
Johan plays bass in the band and is 30 years
old, works as a IT consultant and has 2 sons at
8 and 6 years old, he also has a rabbit. Anders
29 years old is our drummer, he works as product
manager at a company and has 2 kids. Mathias 40
years who lives with his partner, plays the
guitar in the band and works as a project
manager for a company. Jimmy is 36 years old and
is our singer who shouts
in the band. He has a daughter and a son
and works as a personal assistant.
I can hear a lot of Dead Kennedys, Motörhead and
Entombed, do I hear correctly?
-Absolutely! Both Motörhead and Entombed are an
inspiration sources, just listen to the song
Lost and Found. May add that Mark has a big
Motörhead tattoo over the chest. But definitely
punk is the foundation of our music. We have our
old idols from the youth, as we are still
listening to, for example. Social Distortion,
Misfits, Ramones, The Hellacopters, Mercyful
Fate, etc. Jimmy our singer is an old hardcore
guy, so he adds a little of that genre as well.
Mark, too, is listening quite a bit to Black
Metal.
White Light Overdose, are you satisfied with the
name? Was there any thought with the name or is
it just a name? If the best band name had not
been taken, if you had chosen name, would you
have chosen? I mean which is the best band name?
-We are happy with the band name, think it's
crazy. One of Mark's favorite punk albums is
White light, white heat white trash with Social
Distortion. Maybe it's something that gave us an
idea. Overdose was the last bit, the dot over
the I as well. Some boring types have been
bothered on the "overdose" thing. We think
that's good.
What's the best thing about playing live?
-The kick!!
Where is the best place to play, where is the
worst?
-Up to date we have not played in a bad place
but we like the club atmosphere.
How is it to play this kind of music in Sweden
today ?
-We are a fairly new band and have not been out
on the roads so much because we spent a lot of
time in the studio. But we are aware that the
kind of music we play might not have the widest
audience, but I just think it's smart to bet on
a smaller audience ...
How would you describe your music in three words
?
-Dirty, heavy and filthy.
What does punk mean to you, is it just a word or
is it a lifestyle?
-Dare to be yourself, dare to be different, no
damn fake ... We're a bit like we are!
How do you look at downloading, mp3 and the
like?
-It's a rather complicated question, that's how
it's today and you can handle it in a way. Vinyl
seems to be something that starts to be popular
again, which is damn fun.
Are there any good bands in Sweden today? In
your hometown?
-Yes, there are good bands in Sweden ... such as
Hellacopters, Backyard Babies, Entombed, Dark
Funeral, Watain, Jesus Chrusler Supercar,
Achilles, Black River Swamp, etc. Just in our
hole Högsby there are not so many bands . The
closest thing is tol Oskarshamn .. I did mention
some of those bands above?
Have you played anything outside Sweden?
-Not yet, but we would love to.
Other good bands from outside Sweden?
-Misfits, Danzig, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, early
Black Sabbath, Ramones, Social Distortion,
Mayhem .....
Your lyrics, what are you influenced of? Never
in Swedish?
-Our singer has had tough times in his life, he
gets a lot of inspiration from it, or from
others who have had it tough. Sorry, nothing in
Swedish.
Is there anything you will never write about?
-Something ridiculously damn shit ..
Politics and music, do you always belong?
-No .. There are very good horror punk that do
not contain politics.
Do you think music can change someone's life,
then I mean lyrics etc?
-We definitely think so!
Your cover is really nice on your CD/LP, who has
done it. Is it important to have a cover as you
can understand what kind of music you play?
Which is your favorite cover all the time? ...
-Thank you so much, we're so happy! There is a
pal named Kim Svensson who is behind what he
calls RoyalCoffin. He is on instagram and the
web, where you can check a lot of stuff he has
done, he is good. Yes, we wanted a colorful
cover that gets a little in your face feeling ..
It's a good fit for us.
Is it important to get out physical discs? Vinyl
or CD or both? Is there any good record store in
your hometown?
-As I said, vinyl seems to be hot again, then
are streaming right popular today. Think that
most people have Spotify.
ox .. there are no recordstores left here.
Please tell me something really fun that
happened during your career on stage or behind
stage etc?
-It became a little party after a gig, got
pretty hard .. Was surprised when I woke up the
next day and saw the sky ... Then I noticed that
I was lying on a car roof .. that was strange
What is your audience looking like? Which people
comes? Do you miss any kind of people?
-So said .. We have spent a lot of time in the
studio and have not yet done so many gigs ... we
have had a couple of gigs.
Please rank your five favorite discs, five
favorite concerts?
Discs: Social D - White light white heat white
trash. Backyard Babies - Total 13, The Misfits -
Static Age, Danzig - Lucifuge, Mercyful Fate -
Melissa.
Kiss 96 with the original members, Graveyard on
Swedenrock, Motörhead, Social Distortion and
King Diamond.
Is it boring with interviews ??
-No, it's better than football, what damn
shit...
If you could choose five bands from history,
dead and alive to have a concert with your band,
what are the dreambands then?
-Motörhead,
Social Distortion, Sabbath 71, Entombed, Ramones
Is music a great way to get frustration and
become a prettier person? Are you angrier today
than you were when you were younger?
-We have the band to keep us calm. We are quite
angry.
Which is the strangest question you received in
an interview?
-This is the second interview we make with this
band ... We have not encountered so odd
questions yet.
Future plans for the band?
-Find gigs, rehearse, prepare the next album to
be written and probably recorded this summer.
For yourself?
-Write songs
Words of wisdom?
-Never lie with someone who has a needlestick in
the arm fold.
Something to add?
-Tjofadderittan Tvärflöjt! :) |
