Mark from the group Unseen answered my questions in a time of lesser than 8
hours. That´s good and thank Mark of all of my heart fort his.. This
happened the 4th of may 2005.
Why did you start to play and when was it?
-We started to play 10 years ago. We did it because we were young and had
nothing else to do.
Is it still the same member or do you have had many personal changes?
-We have had a few changes but it has been the core line up since day one.
The core members have been me, Tripp bass vocals, and Scott lead guitar.
Please tell me a little about every member of the group today, age, family,
interests, and something bad about every one?
-Well Pat is our drummer he is 24 his interests are smoking playing drums
and NOFX haha.
Scott our lead guitarist is 26 he loves punk music and baseball.
Tripp our bassist he is 27 his interests are music and video games.
Me well I am 28 I am into horror movies
those are a few interests we have. I don’t have anything bad to say about
any of us.
Do you have Unseen as you fulltime work? If you don´t have what do you do
for your living?
-We try to do this as a living but sometimes we have to find other work. I
do landscaping when I have to ya know mowing lawns and cutting down trees.
Scott and Tripp work for a moving guy when they have to moving people from
house to house. Pat I dont know what he does
You´re from Boston, many other punkbands have come out of Boston, which are
the best from now and from then?
-Some great old ones are Slapshot, Freeze, Gang Green, DYS, some great
current bands are Blood for Blood, Global Threat, State control
Wasn´t it Boston the planes was starting off from the 11th of september, how
has it colouring your life?
-It was either from Boston or L.A. I forget. I know the planes were going
from L.A. to Boston. It was insane, the airports were closed for weeks. We
were on tour when it happened some shows got cancelled because people were
afraid to open the clubs.
Is people afraid for that it can happen again?
-Well they were but by now i think people have forgotten or its just not on
there minds. It´s fuckin scary because it could happen again.
You were on the Rock against Bush record, can it help people to change their
mind with these records?
-I hope so that’s why we did it. We have always had some political messages
but they were always directed to only punks. With that comp we were part of
something that reached fans of all music. I think that the chance to alert
people is greater on a record like that.
What about that Bush won the election? Are people stupid or what is wrong?
-Well yes people are fucking retarded. You have to understand America is a
huge country. Kerry won in all major cities Boston ,L.A. New York, Chicago
etc. But Bush he won in all the farmer religious areas places like Alabama,
Texas, Iowa its weird all the real religious freaks wanted bush. Fuck them.
Music and politics, does it goes hand in hand?
-To an extent yes. Well punk at least. I think most punk bands have songs
about politics some bands are more serious. Ya know you got bands like Crass
or Aus rotten everything they did was political then there is bands like
Unseen or Black Flag where only some songs are political.
Best political band?
-AUS ROTTEN OR CONFLICT
What do you know about Sweden? What is typical swedish?
-Honestly I don’t know much about Sweden.
Have you heard any swedish bands worth to mention?
-I never got into Swedish music is there a big scene?
I have the latest CD State of dis... and Totally Unseen from Step One
Records? Which else fullengths have you done(and how can I get them?)
-Well that Step one cd is a comp of songs from our first 2 cds. Those cds
are "Lower class" and "So this is freedom". We also have 2 other albums
out "Explode" and "Anger and the truth"
Which apart from the latest one are you most satisfied with?
-I’d say our last cd explode.
You really look punk and play punk and I presume that you live punk, what
does punk mean to you, is it only a word or is it a lifestyle?
-Yeah it’s a life style. To me it means doing what you want when you want
and looking how you want. I try to live my life as I want and not by the
standards of our mainstream population.
Is punk something you will raise your children(if you got/have/going to get)
with?
-I’ll let my kids live how ever they want. I’ll hope they want to be into
punk but it´s their choice.
How has the scene changed since you began to play and from the beginning?
-Well it´s gotten a lot bigger. And its more common. Punk is everywhere now
malls, chain stores etc.
It´s very easy to be punk today.
How does the average Unseen fan look like?
-Average fan is young and looks very punk hahaha ya know ripped clothes
mohawks ect.
Do you have good contact with your fans? In which way?
-Yes I always talk to fans at shows. And my email address is on our site. I
try and be in touch with them.
How is a good concert with Unseen? Is it violent or what?
-Our shows are not violent. Its a good time we play and kids have fun
singing and moshing around.
Is it most fun to play in USA or outside USA? Where is the best country to
play in?
-Well USA is awesome but Japan was insane those kids loved music. We have
not played Europe much so I cant describe that. We hope to go to Europe
soon.
You have an own website, is it important to a band to have one?
-Yes definitely the internet is the best way for people to learn about bands
Is it many visitors from many odd countries there?
-On our site? If that’s what you mean yah people from everywhere go to our
site.
You´re on Hellcat now, how come and is it good?
-We signed with Hellcat because its a great label and we needed a bigger
label. Mainly for distribution in Europe and Japan. It was hard to get our
albums outside of USA now it will be easier for people to get them.
What do you like the other bands on the label?
-Great bands on Hellcat are Rancid, Bastards, F-, Dropkick Murphys, US
Roughnecks,
When you do music, which is most important, is it to have a good melody,
good lyrics or is it to have a refrain that people remembers?
-It´s both great melody and good lyrics that make a song.
