Steam Kittens is a group with people in my age I think. Good punkrock and I really want to hear more. Here´s an interview with them done in december-2019

Please tell me a little bit history of the group?

-Steam Kittens are Gav,Bill,Tucky,Craig, Formed from the ashes of previous bands in 1990. Two punks and two rockers combined to get the Steam Kittens sound. After 5 years of travelling the land things came to a end all on good terms. Fast forward to 2016 and a reunion gig that sparked the Steam Kittens back into life older wiser and more sober and back to gigging across the land

With a new cd out Blackout in tecnicolour.

Please tell me a little about every member in the group right now, age, family, work, interests and something bad about everyone? Earlier bands? Other bands on the side?

-Bill guitar, married and works in education played in rock and blues bands but cant remember the names.  Hes Always skint

Craig bass, married civil servant previous bands Stella, New world asylum, Dip,

Currently in Crazy diamond covers band.  Hes Never on time

Tucky vocals, single unemployed previous bands Vermin, Storm. Bone idle

Gav drums, married flt driver previous bands Estury visa, Vermin, Hydra, Storm.

Hes a control freak.´

I can hear much different influences but mostly old 77-punk and the like? Favorites from the past?

-Bill, SLF,AC/DC, Sabbath,Ozzy, Steve Earle

Steam kittens are you satisfied with the name? How did it came up? You weren’t afraid that some other band would be named like this? Which is the best bandname you know?

-We love the name of our band its was picked so no other band would think of it 

We just banded around some words that sound good together. Saying that there is a photograpy site that´s got the same name 

But we got it first.

What´s the best thing with playing live?

-The reaction the buzz and being on the stage with each other

And where is best to play? And the worst place?

-We love playing gigs we would say the Waterloo in Blackpool great venue

Played to many dives to pick one out

How is to play this sort of music in England right now? Which types of bands do you have concerts together with?

-There is a really good underground scene at the moment

We have played on multi band events with sleaze, rock,punk, acoustic

We tend to be the square peg in a round hole but we like that

How would you describe your music in three words?

-Livewire punky rock n roll

What does punk mean to you, is it only a word or is it a lifestyle?

-Gav,Punk is a movement and its in your heart. Less of a fashion statement more of a attitude.

Which song/album or group was it who took you into punk/hardcore?

-This is easy Stiff Little Fingers , Inflammable material x 4

What shall a young guy do today to shock their parents as the way we did when we were young? They have already seen everything ?

-Think shocking parents as gone now. The parents have done it all before the kids were born

How is it to live in England right now? Politically? Fascists? Brexit?

-All we need to say is politics in this country is a joke

Is there any good bands from England right now? Is the punkscene/metalscene/hardcorescene big? How is it in your hometown?

-Some great new bands , Hung Like Hanratty, Thee Acid Tongue, Tinsel Town Rebellion, Noose , Barstool Preachers to name a few. But fewer venues to play

Who will put original bands on?

What do you know about Sweden? Have you been here sometime?

-Never been to Sweden

What do we know about Sweden not a lot. Abba,Ulrika johnson,meatballs,and ikea, sorry Craig has been to Sweden, Malmo seen the twisted tower great place lovely friendly people

Have you heard any good bands from Sweden?

-Abba, Europe,Black Sweden,Backyard babies,Ghost pretty sure they are mainly swedish

Your lyrics, who does them and what influences you?

-Mostly Tuck but recently we have mixed it up a bit we tend to write about 

Everyday things and stuff that happens to us nothing to heavy . Saying that Tuck as just wrote a song about mental issues called Breaking Down

Is there any subject that you never will write anything about?

-We try not to be controversial we would rather keep it upbeat and fun

Politic and music, does it goes hand in hand? Which is your most political song? Is it important to get out your opinions in music?

-We dont really do politics and music we have wrote a new song called Solidarity

Which is about standing together and solo about this county being on it´s own after brexit that´s about as political we get.

Best political band/artist?

-Bill,SLF, Gav,Crass, and a great local band to us Rats from a sinking ship

Do you think that music(lyrics and so on) can change anyones life, I mean people who listens to music?
-Sometimes, we all have songs that take us to a place event or person from our lives. It also depends on moods some music is definitely inspiring and uplifting.

A friend of ours Daz does the artwork for us he is very good. A legend

Is it important to get out physical records of your stuff? Why or why not? Vinyl, CD, cassette, what do you prefer if you could choose whatever ?

-You cant beat cd or vinyl lot better than a download. cassettes have died a death.

Please tell me a funny thing which have happened during your career and under some gig?

-Remember playing Rock Island in Derby and a guy rode up the stairs on a chopper motorbike  spun a doughnut and parked it right in front of the stage.

Start of the next song Tucky climbed on the bike and carried on singing the rest of us thought he was going to get a kicking but the guy loved it ended up on stage playing harmonica with us we ended up honorary members of the bike chapter.

How does your audience look like? Which people do you miss on your concerts? Which is the biggest band you ever have played together with?

-We have a real mixed audience people who came to see us in the late 80s early 90´s and people who are new to us. Some of the bigger bands we have supported on the punk scene Toy Dolls  and The Membranes when we were called Storm and recently UK Subs, The Barstool Preachers and hopefull plenty more to come.

Is it boring with interviews? Is it much interviews?

-To tell you the truth this is the first interview for 20+ years

Do you care about reviews? Which is the most peculiar you ever had, with this band or any other band you have been to?

-Yeah reviews are important it gives the feedback that people can read and form an opinion.

Which bands do people compare you to, is it boring that people compare you to other bands or is it understandable?

-We have been compared to the Wildhearts a few times lol

Which we dont mind.

If you could choose five bands from the past and the history and nowadays and both dead and living bands to have a concert together with your band. Which five have you been chosen?

-We will do this between us. SLF, The Wildhearts, Hanoi Rocks, AC/DC, Johnny Thunders.

Is music a good way to get out frustration and become a nicer person outside the music?

-We all get a bit grouchy if we dont rehearse or gig on a regular basis.

Futureplans for the band?

-Keep writing get back in the studio try and and get some decent support slots.
