SHADOWPLAY-RAW POWDER(LP STUPIDO RECORDS TWINLP 296)

Den här skivan kom ut första gången 1997 och det här är en grupp som jag konstigt nog gillar ganska mycket. Deras musik är ju inte den vanliga musiken som jag lyssnar på. På Cling on it har sångaren en sådär skönt blasé på något sätt och han påminner faktiskt om Lou Reed där. Musikaliskt finns det många influenser och det kan vara allt från Lou Reed, Cure, 80.tals synth för att säga några saker och det blir en lite musikaliskt hyllning till dessa. Mycket melodier såklart och man blir glad av hela skivan på något skönt sätt. Jag gillar nog sångarens röst mest på skivan för han känns sådär skönt avslappnad. Jag kan tänka mig att ni som gillar indie kommer att älska den här skivan och har ni inte hört Shadowplay innan så borde ni ta tag i ert liv och lyssna på detta.Min favoritlåt på skivan är helt klart There´s been a few och det är väl den låten som har mest fart på skivan och har de tuffaste gitarrerna..En glömd skatt som ni borde gräva upp! 2/12-2025

1997 and this is a group which I strangely enough like quite a lot. Their music is not the usual music that I listen to. On Cling on it the singer has a nice blasé in some way and he actually reminds me of Lou Reed there. Musically there are many influences and it can be anything from Lou Reed, Cure, 80's synth to say a few things and it will be a little musical tribute to these. A lot of melodies of course and you get happy from the whole record in some nice way. I think I like the singer's voice the most on the record because he feels so nice relaxed. I can imagine that you who like indie will love this record and if you haven't heard Shadowplay before you should take hold of your life and listen to this. My favorite song on the record is definitely There's been a few and it's probably the song that has the most speed on the record and has the toughest guitars. A forgotten treasure that you should dig up! 2/12-2025

Shadowplays första skiva från 1988 har här blivit släppt av Stupido Records…inledningslåten får mig nästan att tänka på Franska Trion fast på engelska…lite av samma blasé röst och pianot som spelar huvudrollen och den är riktigt skön! Det fortsätter i ungefär samma stil i Kingdom gone och det är en klart avspänd musik som också för mina tankar lite till Smiths musikaliskt eller kanske Housemartins…eller Shadowplay? I Damaged Goods får jag en Lou Reed-känsla och låten är så bra! Fan vad svårt att sätta detta i en speciell genre men det kanske vi inte behöver göra för vi kan väl istället enas att detta är en ganska skön skiva där pianot får spela en ganska stor del i musiken och sångarens röst har också en stor del till att jag gillar detta riktigt mycket! Det låter inte som något annat jag hört även om jag precis har gett er influenser, likheter etc etc. Jag gillar också när de trissar upp tempot och nästan spelar lite punkigt som i Feel The night….en riktigt hit! Samma gäller egentligen för den kontroversiella låttiteln Cock and Cunt Play som är en punkdänga i Damneds gotiska stils anda. På den vägen är det…man vet inte riktigt vad det är för musik på nästa låt men man vet att det är något bra! 21/3-2024

SHADOWPLAY-TOUCH AND GLOW(LP-STUPIDO RECORDS TWINLP 275)

Shadowplay's first album from 1988 has been released by Stupido Records... The first song almost makes me think of the Franska Trio but in English... A little bit of the same blasé voice and the piano that plays the lead role and it's really nice! It continues in the same style in Kingdom gone and it's a clearly relaxed music which also makes me think a little to Smiths musically or maybe Housemartins... or Shadowplay? In Damaged Goods I get a Lou Reed-feeling and the song is so good! Fuck it ́s so hard to put this in a special genre but maybe we don ́t need to do that because we can agree that this is a really nice record where the piano plays a really big part in the music and the singer's voice also has a big part to that I like this really much! It doesn't sound like anything else I've heard even though I've just given you influences, similarities etc etc. I also like when they speed up the tempo and almost play a little punky as in Feel The night....a real hit! The same goes for the controversial song title Cock and Cunt Play, which is a punk song in the spirit of Damned's gothic style. On that road, it's... You don ́t really know what kind of music it is on the next song but you know that it ́s something good! 21/3-2024

SHADOWPLAY-EGGS & POP(LP STUPIDO REOCRDS TWINLP254)

Den här skivan har 30 år på nacken och det kanske syns på omslaget som i och för sig är ett annat omslag än på originalskivan. Jag kan tänka mig att namnet kanske är taget från en Joy Division låt men vad vet jag. Det är lite befriande men också förvirrande med Stupido Records att de har så många olika musikstilar på sitt bolag men de har ju alltid musik med kvalité. Jag gillar verkligen den här skivan för den har ett sound som verkligen tar oss tillbaka till 90-taets underbara indievärld och ni vet när det kom band som Wannadies, This Perfect Day, Cod Lovers etc här hemma i Sverige så kan jag tänka mig att det gjorde samma sak i Finland…i alla fall kom Shadowplay.  Det är musik man blir glad av och helt klart spritter det lite i benen när man lyssnar på Shadowplay och jag skulle nog kunna säga att alla som gillar indiemusik kommer att gilla den här gruppen också. De sjunger på engelska och det passar kanske bäst till den här typen av musik. I låten Crawl har den en basgång som skulle vara värdig Faith no More eller något sådant band och den låten är nästan lite funkig. Men oftast är det en lugnare och ganska luftig indie som spelas och det är en skön avkoppling att lyssna till gruppen. 5/10-2023

SHADOWPLAY-EGGS & POP(LP STUPIDO REOCRDS TWINLP254)

This album is 30 years old and it may show on the cover, which in itself is a different cover than on the original album. I imagine the name might be taken from a Joy Division song but what do I know. It's a bit liberating but also confusing with Stupido Records that they have so many different music styles on their label, but they always have music with quality. I really like this album because it has a sound that really takes us back to the wonderful indie world of the 90's and you know when there were bands like Wannadies, This Perfect Day, Cod Lovers etc here at home in Sweden, I can imagine that it did the same thing in Finland... anyway came Shadowplay. It's music that makes you happy and clearly it spreads a little bit in the bones when you listen to Shadowplay and I could probably say that everyone who likes indie music will like this group too. They sing in English and it is perhaps best suited to this type of music. In the song Crawl it has a bass line that would be worthy of Faith no More or any such band and that song is almost a little funky. But usually it is a calmer and quite airy indie that is played and it is a nice relaxation to listen to the group. 5/10-2023
