CRAVATS-THE SMALL WONDER YEARS-THE SINGLES 78-81(LP-FOAD MUSICK FOAD2506)

Cravats tidiga singlar var verkligen punkiga på ett sätt som egentligen karakteriserar punk, gör som du vill, låt som du vill. Gordon/Situations vacant är verkligen mina favoriter, det känner jag med en gång. Mycket attityd och en egen stil men om man måste jämföra med något så är kanske The Fall på sin plats att nämna som ett band som man också skulle kunna gilla om man gillar Cravats. Saxofon är ju inte så vanligt i rockmusik men grupper som X-ray-spex, Fiendens Musik är några grupper som använt den men mycket framgång. Här blir den ett instrument som alla andra och det ger gruppen en mycket egen stil. I hate the universe är verkligen en av höjdpunkterna på skivan och att jag inte hade hört denna tuffa låt från 1979 gör mig nästan ledsen men nu är det ju åtgärdat så där 47 år i efterhand. En låt som The End är riktigt lekfull och det är lite charmigt skevt och vint när man lyssnar till musiken. På B-sidan får vi en singel som aldrig släpptes och det är ju alltid trevligt för samlar till exempel. Det är låtarna I stand before you, Still och Ceasing to be. Hela skivan kröns med en kaxig guld-vinyl. Låten I stand before you är en riktigt skön och bra rockrökare….kolla in om ni vill ha något som inte låter som alla andra. 9/2-2026

Cravat's early singles were really punky in a way that really characterizes punk, do as you want, song as you want. Gordon/Situations vacant are really my favorites, I feel that right away. A lot of attitude and their own style but if you have to compare with something then maybe The Fall is in place to mention as a band that you could also like if you like Cravats. Saxophone is not so common in rock music but groups like X-ray-spex, Fiendens Musik are some groups which have used it but a lot of success. Here it becomes an instrument like any other and it gives the group a very own style. I hate the universe is really one of the highlights of the record and that I hadn't heard this tough song from 1979 makes me almost sad but now it's fixed like that 47 years afterwards. A song like The End is really playful and it is a little charming skewed and wintry when you listen to the music. On the B-side we get a single that was never released and that is always nice for collectors for example. These are the songs I stand before you, Still and Ceasing to be. The entire album is crowned with a cocky gold vinyl. The song I stand before you is a really nice and good rock smoker....check out if you want something that doesn ́t sound like everyone else. 9/2-2026

Cravats är inte en grupp som alla andra, det kan vi konstatera med en gång. Jazzpunk? Eller vad ska man kalla det egentligen?  Gruppen är riktigt skön egentligen och saxofonen gör ju också att det blir ett sound som inte alla andra band har. Punkigt är det absolut på ett befriande sätt och är ni inne på vanlig punk och inte så experimentell sådan så kanske ni tycker detta är skitjobbigt men gillar ni grupper som Fall och Pere Ubu så skulle ni mycket väl kunna uppskatta den här skivan och gruppen också. Det är bra tempo i deras musik många gånger och det gillar jag. Saxofonen gör sitt för att få till ett annorlunda ljud också men den stör inte, tvärtom, den lyfter faktiskt musik till oanade höjder. Detta är kanske inte musik för alla men ni som vill vidga era vyer så är Cravats verkligen en grupp att kolla in. Det känns inte som om de låter annorlunda för att de vill göra sig annorlunda utan mer som att de verkligen älskar/älskade det de gör/gjorde. Så varför inte ge gruppen en chans och låta deras kaotiska anarkistiska musik verkligen ljuda i era högtalare och få skäll av både fru och grannars som undrar vad det är för något du satt på. 9/2-2026

CRAVATS-IN TOYTOWN(LP-FOAD MUSICK FOAD 2507)

Cravats is not a group like any other, we can state that right away. Jazz punk? Or what should you call it really? The group is really nice really and the saxophone also makes it a sound which not all other bands have. Punky it is absolutely in a liberating way and if you are into regular punk and not so experimental so maybe you think this is really hard but if you like groups like Fall and Pere Ubu so could you very well appreciate this record and the group too. There is a good tempo in their music many times and I like that. The saxophone does its part to get a different sound as well but it doesn't interfere, on the contrary, it actually lifts music to unimagined heights. This may not be music for everyone but for those of you who want to broaden your horizons so Cravats is really a group to check out. It doesn't feel like they sound different because they want to make themselves different, but more like they really love/loved what they do/did. So why not give the group a chance and let their chaotic anarchist music really sound in your speakers and get scolded by both wife and neighbors who wonder what it is you were sitting on. 9/2-2026

Kan tänka mig att en livespelning med den här gruppen är någon slags överkörning. Svårt att värja sig inför deras galna musik. Skivan kom ut första gången 1983 och här hade de fortsatt med sin galna stil men det känns lite som om de hade utvecklat sin stil till nästan normal musik. Men det hade de självklart inte gjort. För Cravats blir nog aldrig betitlade ett vanligt band för deras musik är alltid annorlunda men här som sagt har de gått till en stil som är lite mer förståelig eller också är det så att jag har vant mig vid deras udda sound eftersom jag lyssnat på två skivor innan med gruppen. Så jag tror kanske att det är mer så än att de blivit normala för efter ett tag hör jag deras galna infall igen och att de är en grupp utöver det vanliga råder det inget tvivel om. Så varför inte kolla in Cravats om ni vill ha något utöver det vanliga för det får ni verkligen här. Galna infall blandas med skrik och både snabb och lugnare musik. Sjuk grupp egentligen och här experimenteras det mer än vanligt… 9/2-2026

CRAVATS-THE COLOSSAL TUNES OUT(LP-FOAD MUSICK FOAD 2508)

I can imagine that a live gig with this group is some kind of overrun. Hard to resist their crazy music. The album came out for the first time in 1983 and here they had continued with their crazy style but it feels a bit like they had developed their style to almost normal music. But of course they hadn't. Because Cravats will never be titled a normal band because their music is always different but here as I said they have gone to a style which is a little more understandable or maybe it is that I have gotten used to their odd sound because I have listened to two records before with the group. So I think maybe it's more like that than that they have become normal because after a while I hear their crazy whims again and that they are a group out of the ordinary there is no doubt about. So why not check out Cravats if you want something out of the ordinary because you really get that here. Crazy whims are mixed with screams and both fast and calmer music. Sick group really and here they are experimenting more than usual... 9/2-2026

CRAVATS-IN….TOYTOWN(2CD OVERGROUND RECORDS OVER 129CD)

En dubbel CD med en grupp som jag hade en singel med från Crass Records eller om det var Small Wonder. Jag tror att jag minns att de var lite udda då….För de har instrument som klarinett och saxofon i sin sättning som Svor Naan spelar…ganska fräck musik på något sätt ändå…kanske inte punk som man tänker sig punk precis men det känns verkligen som om den här gruppen är punk på det sättet det ”är tänkt”. De gör precis som de vill och spelar den typen av musik som de gillar. Jag tänker lite på en grupp som Pere Ubu ibland och det kanske inte är helt rätt men jag tycker nog inte det är en helt fel jämförelse i några av låtarna. Även B 52´s och Devo har sina likar här… Jag gillar väl mest Small Wonder-låtarna som finns på CD 1….2/8-2012

CRAVATS-IN….TOYTOWN(2CD OVERGROUND RECORDS OVER 129CD)

A double CD with a group which I had a single with on Crass Records or if it was Small Wonder. I think I remember that they were a little bit odd then…Because they have instruments like clarinet and saxophone in their line-up as Svor Nann is playing…really cool music in nsome way anyway…maybe not punk in the way you think about punk but this group feels really much punk because they´r epunk in the way that it “is meant to be”. They do as they want and they play the music they want. I think about a group like Pere Ubu sometimes and that´s maybe not totally right but not a wrong comparison in the songs. Also B 52´s and Devo have their likes here…I think I most like the Small Wonder-songs on the first CD….2/8-2012
