Planet Trash has been around for a while and I have some old records with them but they were so kind that they sent their new LP to me and I was very pleasantly surprised. May 2021

Little story about the group?

-We started 94. It's Myran and Wille left from the 90's and 20's. We often played some kind of hardcore with choruses that could work in any 77-punk band. Then we have always had some Swedish songs with us. So we still have. 2009 (Elände) and 2018 (Vad fick du ut av livet) we did several Swedish songs and now 2020 it was time again.

Tell us a little about each member, age, job, family, band in front and band next to it?

-William "Wille" Jonsson. 53. IT technician, Sambo and two kids. Patrull Grisskit and Funny Farm before. Avfarten and AvArten bredvid.

Pontus “Pow” Olofsson, 28 years. Previously played with Inavel, and currently plays with Widsith next to it. Career in healthcare

I can hear a lot of punk and some hardcore and then both Swedish and English, I hear right? Was it better back in time?

-Yes you hear right, a blissful mix of everything. We have not been stylish in any way and will probably never be. We just make songs and then they get to be who they want to be. We do not think it was better before but we try to do everything we do as well as we can for the day. The main thing that we have fun.

Planet Trash are you happy with the name ?! If the best band name had not been taken, which name would you have chosen then? I mean what is the best band name? You are not afraid that everyone who has not heard will think that you are playing trash metal?

-We do not want to think so much about the name because we think we would feel worse if we started, haha. It has a bit of "environmental thinking" about it and is a snippet from a song with Sham 69. It is spelled Trash (garbage) unlike Thrash (as in Thrash metal).

What is the best thing about playing live? Do you miss playing now in these covid times?

-Beer and stage fright. Yes we miss playing. We have a lot of new songs that we feel work well as live songs.

Where is the best place to play, where is the worst?

-Best small and sweaty basements, worst large outdoor scenes

What is it like to play this kind of punk in Sweden today?

-We do not really know because we have not had time to play the new Swedish songs live yet. The album 2020 cannot be described as much as what we did before. We would love to play with some good similar bands. We promise it will be good.

How would you describe your music in three words ?

-Right now. Fast, concise, varied

What does punk mean to you, is it just a word or is it a lifestyle? How has the view of punk changed over the years?

-I first think of a style of music. You hear if the music you listen to and play is punk or not. Then people can have a nice and sensible lifestyle regardless of musical taste. We like good music and good people regardless of appearance.

How´s your view on downloads, mp3s and the like?

-Our music can be downloaded completely free from planettrash.se. We have neither revenue nor expenses to care about.

How do you think it is to live in Sweden today, politically? KD, SD, M and now L

-Mainly SD has plagued everything in recent years. Can't they just disappear sometime, just like covid-19 hopefully does. The fact that they attract about 20% of dissatisfied voters is proof that they have succeeded in their propaganda to oppose groups and maintain dissatisfaction. The only thing that happens is that people walk around and are angry at other people instead of focusing on their own lives. That the other parties can take support from SD only makes one tired. Hope it is noticeable when there is an election.

Are there any good bands in Sweden today? In your hometown?

-Yes. The whole of Sweden is full of good bands. Doka and M.I.D are from Bollnäs and are very active. There are more, but do not keep track of the activity right now with the others. Otherwise we have a lot of metal and pop in Bollnäs of various kinds. Everyone hangs out with everyone. We are quite close to Hudiksvall where a lot happens via Angry Hudik HC who ran the festival Ostämman, where we also played.

Do you play anything outside Sweden?

-We have done it a few tours before. Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark and Norway. We had plans for a west coast tour with MDC in the US, but it has been put on the future. Now it will probably be mostly Sweden in the future.

Other good bands from abroad?

-We like so many bands. We have played with MDC over ten times, so we have to mention them.

Your lyrics, what are you influenced by? Only in Swedish now in the future? Tell us a little about the following songs-Landet som las ner -Suicidsvall -Sverigehatarna( -The country that was downloaded -Suicidesvall -Sweden haters)

-We are greatly influenced by things that feels wrong. We will make another Swedish record soon, but after that we will see. Landet som las ner is very much about the fact that what makes it worth living in smaller communities is something that does not have to cost a lot of money. Friends, a guitar and a lake are enough. Suicidsvall is a bit about how we shut others out, that we have become afraid of each other instead of afraid of each other. There are some connections to a song with Docenterna called Förbannat kall. Sverigehatarna are about the terrible SD tail. They call us traitors and haters of Sweden. It is important that we have the strength and dare to resist the idiocy they spread everywhere as soon as they get the chance, often via incorrect information.

Is there anything you will never write about? Or is there nothing sacred or no idea to write about?

-Type I wanna rock, or maybe we already wrote about it in Swedish in När musiken dör. Now I decided that what I really needed to do was learn how to do it right. Thanks. We have written a new song where we sing "In a pizzeria, all people are equal". It sounds a little embarrassing, but it's about it being perhaps the only place where no one is better or better than anyone else. Everyone wants a nice dough sometimes.

Politics and music, do they always belong together?

-What difficult questions. If you write that you are tired of everything, it is not politics in itself. But the cause of one's feelings can be rooted in politics. But the subject of love does not feel like politics. Now I dropped the thread. Takes the next question.

Best political band / artist? Any good band that is not political?

-Everything between Dead Kennedys to The Clash works as a broad answer, but also Asta Kask, Mimikry and The Baboon Show are big Swedish bands with a fairly clear message. Not political. Everything between Ramones and Rancid, although now it's probably not true at all because I have not sat and read texts, but I go on the feeling.

Do you think music can change someone's life, then I mean lyrics etc?

-Yes. Either you want to create a change in society or the texts create a change in yourself. Music is also very many people's lives. You live in and around the music every day.

Your cover is really cool on your LP, who did it. Is it important to have a cover that you understand the type of music you play? What is your favorite cover of all time?

-Myran took the photo under a autumnwalk and it felt as 2020. We are no experts on albumcovers but it feels like the music on the record not is wrong but the opposite way can be OK too.

The Day The Country Died with SUBHUMANS is a nice cover.

Is it important to get physical records? Vinyl or CD or both? Is there a good record store near you? Do you buy some records yourself or is it only digital that applies?

-I think it was Pontus who said that now a real LP must be released. It felt fun to get something to focus on for us and now it just feels like we are going to do more. For listeners, this may not be so important. There is probably something called Vinylstallet in Alfta and a bunch of flea markets with a decent selection if you are lucky. There are several of us in the band who buy records (mostly LP), but no collector tendencies.

Please tell me something really funny that happened during your career on stage or behind the scenes etc?

-In Waldkirchen in Germany we had a very fun and wet evening but what happened stays within the band haha. We usually just drive on when we play and at most say "I do not want to be angry, I want to be happy". It was cool when the audience shouted Enas, Enas, Enas and Enas went to the edge of the stage and received the cheers. Enas was our former drummer. Unfortunately, he is not with us today due to an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. Enas still had the finest heart in the world. Everyone should be a little more like Enas.

How does the audience look like? Which type of people comes to your concerts? Do you miss any types of people?

-The question is whether we have an audience. We have had many of our listeners in the US (seen on Spotify) and participated in some collections there. Then we released a CD in Germany, but it is probably forgotten today. In recent times, we have received more and more listeners from Sweden. We miss everyone right now in these covid times and hope that people will listen to and like the songs on the LP. Then of course we come and play if people want.

Is it boring with interviews? Is it many or is it much calmer these days on that front?

-It is unusual to answer so many questions, but fun to think a little. We have probably never had many interviews. Can barely remember when we had someone. We did a pod recording in connection with an HC gig in Hudik a couple of years ago and that is probably the last thing I remember where we answered questions.

If you could choose five bands from history, dead and alive to have a concert with your band, what are the dream bands then?

-Pontus - The Germs Wille - Ebba Grön and The Undertones would work.

Is music a good way to get out of frustration and become a kinder person? Are you angrier today than you were as young punks?

-As a young person you wanted to have fun, but it was ruined by a lot of people who would be bothered by what you looked like. Today you also want to have fun, but you are so aware of all the shit that happens everywhere that you have to find ways to disconnect everything. Then it's damn nice to be able to shout punk lyrics to loud and fast music.

What is the strangest question you have got in an interview? (Except this one then)

- We do not actually remember.

What is the question you never get, ask it and answer it?

-Who is the best in the band on ice fishing. It's Pontus, we think.

Future plans for the band?

-Record all new songs and release it on LP no. 2, and try to get out and play.

For yourself?

-Go away with a bunch of guys and play golf, without even being ashamed of the answer. We had a course in Freluga where Myran and I live which was "low budget". Now the track is closed, but we still go on a "drunk trip" every spring and play.

Words of wisdom?

-You never know in advance when it's too late.

Anything to add?

-Pontus barely needs to rehearse a song before he can put the drums to the song completely without background music. He just sits at the drums and records it. Diagnosis - unknown.

Jag kan höra mycket punk och en del hardcore och då både svensk och engelsksjungen, hör jag rätt? Var det bättre förr?

-Ja du hör rätt, en salig blandning av allt. Vi har inte varit stilrena på något sätt och kommer väl aldrig bli. Vi gör bara låtar och så får dom bli som dom vill bli. Vi tycker inte det var bättre förr utan vi försöker göra allt vi gör så bra som vi orkar för dagen. Huvudsaken att vi har roligt.

Planet Trash är ni nöjda med namnet?! Om inte det bästa bandnamnet hade varit upptaget, viket namn hade ni valt då? Jag menar vilket är det bästa bandnamnet? Ni är inte rädda för att alla som inte hört ska tro att ni spelar trashmetal?

-Vi vill inte fundera så mycket över namnet eftersom vi tror att vi skulle må sämre om vi började, haha. Det har lite ”miljötänk” över sig och är snott från en låt med Sham 69. Det stavas ju Trash (sopor) till skillnad från Thrash (som i Thrash-metal).

Vad är det bästa med att spela live? Saknar ni att spela nu i dessa covidtider?

-Öl och scenskräck. Ja vi saknar att spela. Vi har ju en massa nya låtar som vi känner att dom fungerar jättebra som live-låtar.

Var är bäst att spela, var är sämst?

-Bäst små och svettiga källare, sämst stora utomhusscener

Hur är det att spela denna sortens punk i Sverige idag?

-Vi vet ju inte riktigt eftersom vi inte hunnit spela dom nya svenska låtarna live ännu. Skivan 2020 kan inte beskrivas lika som det vi gjorde innan. Vi skulle gärna spela tillsammans med några bra liknande band. Vi lovar att det kommer bli bra.

Hur skulle du beskriva er musik med tre ord??

-Just nu. Snabb, kortfattad, varierad

Vad betyder punk för er, är det bara ett ord eller är det en livsstil? Hur har synen på punk ändrats genom åren?

-Jag tänker först på en musikstil. Man hör om musiken du lyssnar på och spelar är punk eller inte. Sen kan människor ha en skön och vettig livsstil oavsett musiksmak. Vi gillar bra musik och bra människor oavsett utseende.

Hur ser ni på nedladdning, mp3 och liknande?

-Vår musik går att ladda ner helt fritt från planettrash.se. Vi har varken intäkter eller kostnader att bry oss om.

Hur tycker ni det är att bo i Sverige idag, politiskt? KD, SD, M och nu L

-Främst SD har ju förpestat allt de senaste åren. Kan dom inte bara försvinna någon gång, precis som covid-19 förhoppningsvis gör. Att dom lockar ca 20 % av missnöjda väljare är ett bevis på att dom lyckats med sin propaganda att sätta grupper emot grupper och upprätthålla missnöjet. Det enda som händer är att folk går om kring och är förbannade på andra människor istället för att fokusera på sitt eget liv. Att de andra partierna kan ta stöd av SD gör en bara trött. Hoppas det märks när det blir val.

Finns det några band i Sverige idag? I er hemstad?

-Ja. Hela Sverige är fullt av bra band. Doka och M.I.D är från Bollnäs och är väldigt aktiva. Det finns fler, men har inte koll på aktiviteten just nu hos dom andra. Annars har vi mycket metal och pop i Bollnäs av olika slag. Alla hänger med alla. Vi har rätt nära till Hudiksvall där det händer en del via Angry Hudik HC som kört festivalen Ostämman, där vi också spelat.

Spelar ni något utanför Sverige?

-Vi har gjort det tidigare några vändor. Tyskland, Frankrike, Tjeckien, Polen, Danmark och Norge. Vi hade planer på en västkustturne med MDC i USA, men den har lagts på hyllan. Nu blir det förmodligen mest Sverige framöver.

Andra bra band från utlandet?

-Vi gillar ju så många band. Vi har ju lirat ihop med MDC över tio gånger så dom måste vi nämna.

Era texter, vad influeras ni av? Bara på svenska nu i framtiden? Berätta lite om följande låtar -Landet som las ner -Suicidsvall -Sverigehatarna

-Vi influeras mycket av sånt som känns snett. Vi kommer göra en till svensk skiva snart, men efter det får vi se. Landet som las ner handlar mycket om att det som gör att det är värt att bo i mindre samhällen är sådant som inte behöver kosta en massa pengar. Det räcker med vänner, en gitarr och en sjö. Suicidsvall handlar lite om hur vi stänger andra ute, att vi blivit rädda för varandra istället för rädda om varandra. Det finns lite kopplingar till en låt med Docenterna som heter förbannat kall. Sverigehatarna handlar om den hemska SD-svansen. Dom kallar oss för landsförrädare och sverigehatare. Det gäller att vi orkar och vågar stå emot idiotin dom sprider överallt så fort dom får chansen, ofta via felaktiga uppgifter.

Finns det något ni aldrig kommer att skriva om? Eller finns det inget som är heligt eller inte någon idé att skriva om?

-Typ I wanna rock, eller så kanske vi redan skrivit om det fast på svenska i När musiken dör. Nu kom jag på att jag ska skriva om den låten till något helt nytt. Tack. Vi har skrivit en ny låt där vi sjunger ”På en pizzeria är alla människor lika”. Det låter lite pinsamt, men det handlar om att det är kanske det enda stället där ingen är förmer eller bättre än någon annan. Alla vill ha en sjysst deg ibland.

Politik och musik, hör det alltid ihop?

-Vilka svåra frågor. Skriver man att man är trött på allt så är det ju inte politik i sig. Men orsaken till ens känsla kan bottna i politik. Men ämnet kärlek känns ju inte som politik. Nu tappade jag tråden. Tar nästa fråga.

Bästa politiska band/artist? Något bra band som inte är politiskt?

-Allt mellan Dead Kennedys till The Clash funkar ju som ett brett svar, men även Asta Kask, Mimikry och The Baboon Show är ju stora svenska band med rätt så tydligt budskap. Inte politiska. Allt mellan Ramones till Rancid, fast nu stämmer det ju säkert inte alls eftersom jag inte suttit och lusläst texter, men jag går på känslan.

Tror du musik kan ändra någons liv, då menar jag texter etc?

-Ja. Antingen vill man skapa en förändring i samhället eller så skapar texterna en förändring hos en själv. Musiken är även väldigt många människors liv. Man lever i och runt musiken varje dag.

Ert omslag är riktigt fräckt på er LP, vem har gjort det. Är det viktigt att ha ett omslag som man förstår vilken typ av musik man spelar? Vilken är ert favoritomslag alla tider?…

-Myran fotade under en stilla höstpromenad och det kändes som 2020. Vi är inga experter på omslag, men att det känns lite som musiken på skivan är nog inte fel, men helt tvärtom kan ju funka det också. The Day The Country Died med SUBHUMANS är ju ett sjysst omslag.

-Jag tror det var Pontus som sa att nu måste det ut en riktig LP-skiva. Det kändes roligt att få något att fokusera på för oss och nu känns det bara som att vi ska göra fler. För lyssnare kanske det inte är så viktigt. Det finns väl nåt som heter Vinylstallet i Alfta och ett gäng loppisar med skapligt utbud om man har tur. Vi är flera i bandet som köper skivor (mest LP), men inga samlartendenser.

Snälla berätta något riktigt roligt som hänt under er karriär på scen eller bakom scen etc?

-I Waldkirchen i Tyskland hade vi en väldigt rolig och blöt kväll fast vad som hände stannar inom bandet haha. Vi brukar väl bara köra på när vi spelar och på sin höjd säga ”jag vill inte va arg, jag vill va glad”. Det var häftigt när publiken ropade Enas, Enas, Enas och Enas gick fram till scenkanten och tog emot jublet. Enas var vår förra trummis. Tyvärr finns han inte med oss idag på grund av ett odiagnostiserat medfött hjärtfel. Enas hade ändå världens finaste hjärta. Alla borde vara lite mer som Enas.

Hur ser er publik ut? Vad drar ni för folk? Saknar ni några typer av folk?

-Frågan är om vi har en publik. Vi har ju haft många av våra lyssnare i USA (syns på Spotify) och varit med på några samlingar där. Sen har vi ju släppt en CD i Tyskland, men den är nog bortglömd idag. På senare tid har vi fått fler och fler lyssnare från Sverige. Vi saknar alla just nu i dessa covid-tider och hoppas att folk kommer lyssna på och gilla låtarna på LP:n. Då kommer vi såklart och lirar om folk vill.

Är det tråkigt med intervjuer? Blir det mycket eller är det mycket lugnare nuförtiden på den fronten?

-Det är ovant att svara på så många frågor, men roligt att få tänka till lite. Vi har väl aldrig haft många intervjuer. Kan knappt minnas när vi haft någon. Vi gjorde en pod-inspelning i samband med ett HC-gig i Hudik för ett par år sen och det är väl det sista jag kommer ihåg där vi svarat på frågor.

Ifall ni kunde välja fem band från historien, döda och levande att ha en konsert ihop med ert band, vilka är drömbanden då?

-Pontus – The Germs Wille – Ebba Grön och The Undertones skulle funka.

Är musik ett bra sätt att få ut frustration och bli en snällare person? Är ni argare idag än ni var unga punkare?

-Som ung ville man ha roligt, men det förstördes av en massa dryga människor som skulle störa sig på hur man såg ut. Idag vill man också ha roligt men man är ju så medveten om all skit som händer överallt att man måste hitta sätt att koppla bort allting. Då är det jävligt skönt att få skrika punktexter till hög och snabb musik.

Vilken är den konstigaste frågan ni fått i en intervju?(förutom denna då)

-Vi minns inte faktiskt.

Vilken är frågan ni aldrig får, ställ den och besvara den?

-Vem som är bäst i bandet på pimpelfiske. Det är Pontus tror vi.

Framtidsplaner för bandet?

-Spela in alla nya låtar och släppa på LP nr 2, samt försöka komma ut och spela.

För dig själv?

-Åka iväg med ett gäng gubbar och spela golf, utan att ens skämmas för svaret. Vi hade en bana i Freluga där Myran och jag bor som var ”lågbudget”. Nu är banan nedlagd, men vi åker ändå på en ”fylleresa” varje vår och lirar.

Visdomsord?

-Man vet aldrig i förväg när det är försent.

-Pontus behöver knappt repa en låt förrän han kan sätta trummorna till låten helt utan bakrundsmusik. Han bara sätter sig vid trummorna och spelar in den. Diagnos – okänd.
