The German punkband Organic Fat is really a band
worth looking up. After some months they have
answered my questions for an interview. April
2026
Please tell me a little history about when you
started and why?
-Because the world needs some FatStuff, hahaaa…
Please tell me a little about every member, age,
instrument, bands before and on the side and
something bad about every one?
-Steff, 45 years old, does the vocals for now 20
years at OF. Before there were many other music
projects for acoustic music, singing at church
and a small Punkrock project.
Marian, 39 years old, plays guitar for OF also
for now 20 years, before that he plays at a
Skatepunkband.
Christian, 39 years old, plays the bass guitar
for OF for now 7 years. Before that he plays at
school at a rock project.
Felix, 32 our youngest member, plays the drums
for OF for now 5 years, before that he played
drums at a great Metalcoreband called „I see no
god up here“.
Female Fronted Fattypunk? What is Fattypunk?
-What is Fattypunk? THIS is what we do ;-)
Please just listen - then you understand,
hahaaa… Its maybe a bit of word gaming with this
really crazy Bandname, hahaaa…
But when we ralk about punk, what does the word
mean to you, is it only a word, only a music
style or is it a lifestyle?
-Punk is a little bit of everything what you
told before, a bit of style, a word…strong and
old - and also a lifestyle. You look much
better, when your getting old, when you’re
tattooed, hahaaa… In these times of 2026 is
Punkrock enough, to have a art project and do
it, without thinking about money, only because
it must be born to the world.
To play this sort of music in Germany, how is
that?
-In Berlin, Germany’s Punkrockscene a very small
and unpopular one. Your better with gigs when
you’re a techno DJ, hahaaa… The Rock / Punkclubs
2025 are rare but golden.
Why don´t you sing in german? You have never
done a song in german or?
-Steff: Why I wrote al the songs in English? We
got some songs in German but when your mother
comes to you and asks not very nice questions
about your feelings in cause of love songs a
long time ago, you’ll better be not understood,
hahahaaa… And also Marian looks not very happy
if I try it again ;-) German is a very strong
language, no secure place - everybody
understands you, it’s getting really intimate -
then better in good old english.
Please tell me a little bout following lyrics?
Joy peace and pancakes
A fight I must win
Behind the scenes
-Steff: Joy, peace and pancakes - is a direct
translation from typical German saying. „Friede,
Freude, Eierkuchen“ - This means something like
everything is perfect. This song includes a
recipe for better wellbeing if you got a hard
day. Take a breath is also a way to find a way
to handle situations, breathing is always a
great way to start everything. Take a breath
before you answer, take a breath before you want
to hurt someone - maybe nobody gets hurt.
Behind the scenes is a song for everybody who
support us, to our families, our partners, all
the people who are always by our side. Our
FatCrew, you’ll see them when they wear their
FatCrew shirts. Our Light & Soundmaster, the
Graficguy who never ever wants money, you know?
Without these great souls we were nothing. It’s
so important to say THANK YOU. We do it this
way.
Political songs isn´t anything for you, have you
done any political song?
-Steff: We only represent the politics of
bubbles and gold times. The world gets crazy
enough, time to spread love, no more anger.
You release your record yourself, isn´t it any
label which is interested, or is it better to
release them yourself?
-We just released our music by ourselves, in our
past we’ve heard so many crazy story about
working with labels, it was better to do this
alone, till now. But nobody knows what’s happens
in the future?!
Happy Fatty meditaions, tell me a little about
the albumtitle?
-Steff: The Albumtitle is the opposite of
everything what’s surrounds us in these days, in
media - in also real time, enough of hell & hate
- time for balance. More LOVE, more inner peace
and work.
The name Organic Fat, any deeper meaning with
that?
-No deeper meaning, it happens 20 years ago
between a lot of guys and a lot of beer, haha…
we were looking for a nice sounding name without
any meaning, it’s so boring to hear long stories
about meanings of bandnames, important is the
music, nothing more ;-) And after all these
years, it fits best.
You have released your first vinyl now, how does
it feel to have your music on vinyl?
-Steff: It’s so iconic to have a vinyl from your
very own band. It’s amazing, the sound, the
haptic, the look - everything. I hope it’s not
the last ,hahaa…
What do you think about releases which is only
released digitally, isn´t that boring?
-Oh yes, I really got crazy about this. You only
see on social media ultra nice refrains, which
never been a real song - just for the catch, it
is so different - you’ll better wrote your songs
in running time for 2 minutes it’s better for
streaming services, really crazy times. A Vinyl
or a CD is something you can touch, you can
feel, it belongs together. You have to take time
to put it on, to listen and to enjoy - this kind
of art deserves this.
Is there any good bands from Germany you want to
mention?
-Steff: Oh yeah - please check out
„Kontoinhaber“, you will like their sound!
Any good swedish bands you like?
-Steff: At first I will call out for Abba, my
mom and brother love their music, I personally
like more technoid singer project from Sweden
called „Robyn“, I love her music and enjoyed few
years ago a concert in Berlin.
To live in Germany today, with politicans, war
in the world etc, how is the feeling to live in
Germany right now?
-Steff: In Germany it is crazy like every place
on earth in these times I think. Crazy
politicians, war, terror, everywhere the same. I
try not to go crazy about this and work for
better times in my little own space, which can
be controlled by myself, maybe just a little,
but better then nothing.
Is it much place to play live for you in
Germany?
-Steff: In Germany there are many clubs - not
that much for Punkrockshows, you’ll better be a
DJ, again,..haha…In berlin we got our homebase,
two places we only play shows. Berlin is tired
from live music in these days.
What is the best with livegigs and what is the
worst? ’
-Steff: The best for live gigs for me, is to
catch new souls who’s enjoyed our music and come
back, again and again and again. The worst: No
water, no food. No good sound on stage, so
simple, hahaaa…
Have you only played in Germany or have you
played anything outside Germany?
-We never left Germany till now for a gig. A
little tour - and another dream will come true,
hahaaa…
Please write down your ten favorite records
all-time?
-Steff: Amy Winehouse: Back to black live at
Berlin
AFI: Black sails in the sunset
Misfits: Static age
Millencolin: Life o a plate
The Distillers: With the same called album
The Distillers: And the great coral fang in one
breath
Ignite: Call on my brother
Boysetsfire: After the eulogy
Rise Against: Siren songs of the counter-culture
NoFX: So long an thanks for all the shoes
Which type of people comes to your concerts?
-Steff: When we play at daytime - also kids come
to visit and enjoy a FAT show with bubbles an
sunshine in the air and in the evening the
parents and grandparents could have a dance.
Everybody come to see, sometimes. hahaa…
What is the most chaotic thing which ever have
happened during a Organic Fat-concert?
-Steff: I remember a very funny scene in which
our guitarist leave the stage, while the concert
is running - he goes to toilet and: nobody
recognize that he’s away.
Whichs is your favoritesong to play live? And
which is the song is most popular in the
audience?
-Steff: I think the favorite song from our
community is „long time no see“, but I love
„major/minor“ the most.
Do you do any covers live if you do , which
songs?
-Oh yes, in our past we do a lot of covers, Amy
Whinehouse, Rise Against, Alphaville, but today
we got so much output in our beloved practice
room for our own stuff, that we don’t got no
more time for new covers, but when, then we
cover only from dead artists that’s a fat rule.
I love beer and do my own brew. Any thoughts of
doing a Organic Fat-beer, if you do , what type
of beer will do and what would you call it?
-Steff: Yes we got great ideas for nice beer
names: at first Brutus-Pils with 5,6 promille,
and the FatBrew collection with 3,6
promille..hm..can we got some of your beer?!
I support Arsenal i England and GAIS in Sweden,
do you have any favoriteteam in football?
-Steff: I don’t like football games, my brother
loves berlin Hertha BSC ,but we already play in
the stadium from the other famous football team
in Berlin, Eisern Union, this is also the
favorite team of our guitar player :-)
How do you listen to music, is it vinyl, CD
Spotify, what is the perfect format?
-Steff: I love to hear music over headphones via
Spotify, but I love to binge our first own vinyl
because it is so beautiful, hahaaa…
Do you buy much records yourself?
-Steff: I only buy vinyls, very old ones. I
prefer nice jazz voices for the special minutes
with me, myself and I.
Wisdomword?
-Steff: My wisdom word: „be the change you want
to see“. |
