I interviewed the group 16 years ago and it is the same members as then. Fialky is one of Czech republic best punkbands. Have you missed them, check them out immediately. May 2025

I interviewed you in 2009 and it´s 16 years ago, then you were at the age of 26 you wrote and now you must be a little over 40…do you feel old now then?

-Punk rock is rejuvenating, so definitely not. It's just when we get really drunk that it's

It's just the second day at home that's hard, with the kids waiting for us :)

Have there been many lineup changes during these years? Please tell me the line up today?

-There have been no changes in the line-up since 2008. We are still playing with the same lineup. 3 of the 4 members are even original from the year 2000.

The lineup is Kecup, Ota, Tom and Marcel Green, so the same as when we interviewed in that 2009 year.

Is it still good to be playing punkrock in the Czech republic?

-It's absolutely great in the Czech Republic, punk rock has a tradition here. There are clubs, festivals and the punk community is awesome! I dare to say that I know almost all of them personally and you won't find any dicks among them :)

When you release a record, how much do you sell approximately?

-We release records in a run of 1000 copies, 2/3 of which are sold right away and the rest are sold slowly over time. All our older releases are sold out and there are only a few reissues left. Vinyl is the original medium for punk rock, so I'm not surprised that fans of the genre, like me, collect the records. That's absolutely great and we are so grateful for that.

Which of your records have been selling the most?

-Our records are selling more or less the same, only the older ones have of course sold more copies because they came out in several reissues. The first record that was released in 1000 copies was the previous one "Punk rock radio", and the current record !!!! was released as well.

You have always put out your records on Papagajuv Hlasatel records, are they so good?

-We're conservative. We stick to the same label, the same club promoters, and more or less the same events. PHR is definitely the best label in the country for punk rock.

Everything around the band is built on long-standing friendship.

Any other label who has been wanting to sign you?

-I don't remember :)

The last time I interviewed you , you said that the only Swedish bands you have heard were ABBA, Roxette and Perkele, have it been any more now which have come to your ears?

-It's embarrassing, but I'm still the same way :)

You´re still doing your songs in your own language, never any thoughts of english lyrics?( I hope you don´t have such thoughts)

-We certainly do not intend to use any language other than Czech, although various expressions from English are often smuggled into Czech. There are enough English singing bands already :) (Good I think, I love your songs in the Czech language/editor)

Are you playing any covers when you play live? If you do, which have you been playing?

-Yes, we play several covers with Czech lyrics that have been released on our albums, for example the song Pod tlakem and Tygr. These are two mainstream songs that we have adapted in the style of our punk rock. Sometimes we also play some covers of UK Subs, Sex Pistols or The Undertones, but all with our lyrics.

Have you ever been releasing any record/song which has only been released digitally?

-Yes we released an acoustic EP during the covid and an audiobook. Both of these releases were released digitally only.

You have done a lot of records now…is it many songs which haven't been released yet , both old and new songs?

-There are hardly any of them, I know of only two. We don't mind putting that maybe other bands would have cut. We like to do funny songs that might not be a total hit.

Not any thoughts of releasing your early stuff again, they only came out on CD-r or how was it? I think a lot of people want that(anyway me….)

-The very first demos will not be released, it's from today's point of view an unlistenable affair. Our favourite songs from the first 3 demo CDs were released on the „Stary demace“ album and that's it.

What is the most peculiar thing that happened during a gig with Fialky through all these years...?

-Basically every concert something strange happens, it's never the same. There was a time when we had trouble finishing gigs because of alcohol, but thankfully that doesn't happen anymore. Now I remembered that in a town called Liberec we have two guys who always get naked at the gig, and that's still weird to me. :)

How is it to live in the Czech republic nowadays?

-For me it's great, it's a safe and friendly country where beer is cheaper than water.

Much shit is going on in the world right now, with Ukraine-war, Trump etc etc, what are people most afraid of in Czech Republic nowadays?

-We are certainly concerned about these situations. Unfortunately, the world is likely to change in the near future.

Please mention some Czech bands which we must take a look at?

-We have a lot of great bands in the Czech Republic, but we like the old classics like SPS, E!E, Volant, or Totální Nasazení. From our generation we like Nežfaleš, Staré Pušky, Punk Floid, Houba, or Vision Days. And from the newer ones are Svindl, Bez Sance and our friends Štamgasti.

Your lyrics, is it often so that it is about personal things or is it only lyrics which have been taken out of the air?

-We definitely have 90% personal texts about specific people and places. We don't deal with the situation in the world in our texts. Typical for our band are themes around the subculture of punk rock, it's a kind of escape from reality.

The 5 latest records you bought?

-I'll take it from the most recent: Billy Idol - Dream into it, Stomper 98's latest album, The Broilers - Best of, The Vibrators - Young Lust and Lou Fanánek - Hagen Baden.

Is there any record/records which always must be in the tour bus? Which?

-There's a bunch of them but we listen more to "best of" playlists of our favorite punk bands. Besides that, we have some traditional funny performers that we play mostly in the morning when we're drinking the beer. For example Slovakian singer Richard Muller.

Back to the lyrics, please tell me a little bit of the following lyrics?

-Fotbal

-Snad Neni Konec

-Amy W.

-Fotbal

A song about football, which in our childhood years was all and only a children's game between houses.

- Snad Neni Konec (Hope There's No End)

A sad song about how nothing lasts forever.

-Amy W.

It was a big deal to write a happy song about someone who destroyed themselves with heroin. But in the end, it's about Amy, before the release of Back in black.

Is there any subject you will never sing about?

-The police.

Do you have any favorite football team(I support Arsenal and a Swedish team called GAIS myself)? Or any sport favorites at all

-There is absolutely no such thing. For example, I went to see the Liberec hockey club this season, even though I'm from Prague. Our friends here mainly support the football team Bohemians Prague.

Have you ever done a tribute song to a team or something like that?

-So far, nothing like that has happened.

What is your strength when you play live? What is the biggest difference between playing nowadays and if you compare when you started to play?

-We always play to the fullest and we don't care much about the exact interpretation of the songs. The main thing is to make the concert lively and fun. We like to work with each other on jokes with each other...

Which is your own favorite song among your own songs? And which song is the people's choice?

-We have about six basic songs that are always played. I like them all. They're our classics. The others we change according to the mood and the current record. I mean a show without Přátelé, Punk Sex Pivo, Je Víkend, Pod Tlakem, or Černý Ovce, you couldn't do it.

Future Plans for the band?

-We now have shows scheduled until the end of 2026. Besides, next year will be the 20th anniversary of the release of the United EP, which changed the whole way the band operates, and such a thing will need to be celebrated.

For yourself?

-I believe the personal plans for all of us are to continue to meet in the band and enjoy the gigs and what it creates. In addition to that, we need to be busy at home with our families to keep everything in balance.

Something to add?

-Thanks for the interview, it was exhausting. Good luck and if you come to the concert we'd love to have a beer with you!
