Consumed plays a very nice style of punkrock and here´s an interview done with them in november 2002

History? You can read a more complete history on the website at www.consumedhq.com but basically consumed has been around in one form or another since the early 1990s. We have released a handful of records, toured with some awesome bands and drank a lot of tea. We have been signed to Fat Wreck Chords and now are signed to Golf Records in Europe and the UK. We are all really nice guys.

Please tell me a little about every member in the band, age, family, interests and something bad about every one? Steve – 33, Guitar + vocals. Likes: Iron Maiden. Something bad: Has a habit of getting naked if the right Kiss tune is played to him. Wes – 30, Bass + vocals. Likes: Very little. Something bad: Lives in a small rabbit hutch on the outskirts of Scunthorpe. Chris – 29, Drums. Likes: His dog Flash. Something bad: Was born with three nipples and had to have one removed at birth. Will – 23, Guitar + vocals. Likes: Video games. Something bad: Got caught shoplifting sweets and stickers when I was eight.

I have only heard the Pistols at dawn, what have you done more, and how can I get it? As well as pistols at dawn we have released an ep called “Breakfast at Pappa’s” and another album called “Hit For Six” both on Fat Wreck Chords. You can get them from www.fatwreck.com although any half decent record shop should stock them.
How would you describe your music in three words? Fucking kick ass!
How is it to play this sort of music in England? Well the punk scene is still very American dominated but it is getting better. The shows can range from really poor to really good and are generally completely unpredictable. There are some great British bands about at the moment.
Any good bands there nowadays? Yeah Douglas, This Girl, Capdown, One Car Pile Up, Vanilla Pod, Snuff, Twofold, Funeral For A Friend and more are all really worth checking out. Not to mention mine and Chris’ side project The Blueprint (www.the-blueprint.net)
Have you got any reviews on the new record yet? Good or bad? Yeah they are coming in slowly. Most of them seem to be positive but I still feel that we are often dismissed as wannabes before anyone has allowed us a chance to stand on our own.
Do you care about reviews? Not hugely. I’d like as many people as possible to hear this record and I guess good reviews facilitate that but nothing is gonna change how proud I am of this record.
![]() |
Which bands are you being compared to? Snuff, Motorhead, No Use For A Name, Face To Face…
Which is the most peculiar review you ever got? It was actually a review in Metal Hammer for the newest album “Pistols at Dawn” that said that we couldn’t decide whether we wanted to be Nofx, Blink 182 or Sick of It All. That was pretty far off the mark as far as I’m concerned.
How is a good gig with Consumed? Depends how drunk Steve gets. I usually enjoy myself and we try to encourage those around us to have some fun too.
What´s the most peculiar which have happened during a concert with Consumed, on stage or in the audience? Steve has drunk beer through his belly button. That was pretty peculiar.
Do you have good contact with your fans, in which way? I try to talk to anyone who comes up to me at a show, and we all post on the message board at www.consumedhq.com. You can reach us at mail@consumedhq.com

When the terrorist attacks, how did you react , scared, anger or what, where/are you scared that they´re going to bomb England? I quite enjoyed it in a weird way. Don’t get me wrong it was totally horrific but, as a televisual event I think it is never gonna be surpassed. It was like watching a film or something, completely unreal. I was shocked but not really angry. America can’t act like it is the police force of the world without some consequences. I was more angered but Bush’s nazi foreign policy that has followed and by how our own Prime Minister in Britain seems unable to think for himself.
How it changed your life anything? Hasn’t changed my life at all. I still feel and behave exactly as I did before it happened.
How is political in England right now? Well the Stop The War marches have been attracting more people than any other demonstrations in recent history. But voter turnouts at the last election were very low. Hopefully this will change.

What do you know about Sweden? Expensive beer, pretty girls, snow, hills and yodelling. How does that sound, am I close?
Have you heard any good bands from Sweden? Refused are one of my all time favourite bands. Plus I heard a Blindside song I liked the other day.
Is Golf a good label? They seem like nice guys but I guess time will tell. Ask me again in a year.
Is it many interviews? Is it boring? Not as many interviews as I’d like. I quite enjoy doing them.
Which is the question you never get but you want to have, please ask it and answer it? Q) I run a record label and promise that if you release your next record with us you will never have to work a crappy job again, are you interested? A) Yes please.
If you could choose five bands in our history ,now and then to play with Consumed , which five would you choose? Iron Maiden Metallica circa Master of Puppets AC/DC circa Highway To Hell Faith No More The Clash
When you do music which is most important is it the lyrics, the music or to have a refrain that people remembers? I think all those things matter equally. Its no use having any of them without the others to back it up. Steve tends to fit his lyrics to riffs that he has already written so in that way lyrics take second place, though we would soon slap him into line if he came out with some nonsense. I’m pleased with both the music and the lyrics on our new record.
Please rank your five favourite record, five best concerts and five most important things in life? 5 Records off the top of my head: Master of Puppets – Metallica White Trash Two Heebs and a Bean – Nofx Meantime – Helmet Life’s a Riot With Spy Versus Spy – Billy Bragg The Specials – The Specials
5 Best Concerts in no order: Tomahawk Helmet Billy Bragg Propagandhi Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine
5 Most Important Things In Life: Friends Family Happiness Love Tea
First, last and most expensive record ever bought? My first record was by Talking Heads, the most recent purchase was the new Johnny Cash album and I’m not sure I’ve ever spent a fortune on a record so I couldn’t say the most expensive one.
What drives you to play music, which is the best and what´s the worst of being in a band? I just love guitar based music, the energy and effort that go into making it and performing live. The best thing about being in a band is being able to go on tour and see people’s reactions to your music firsthand, the worst thing is all the waiting about that you have to do when you are on tour and never making any money from doing the thing that I love.
Futureplans for you? Go back to work after a little break. Try to practice with my bands. Be happy.
Futureplans for the band? A video and European tour are planned for early in the new year. Look out for us in a town near you soon.

Wisdomword? Never look a gift horse in the mouth.
