Böset comes from Gothenburg and plays a type of
hardcore I really like. In February 2021, they
answered a bunch of questions and here is the
result.
Little story about the group ?.
-Böset started as talking, Joey and Biskop went
to gigs as often as they could. Joey met love in
Asocial-city (Hedemora) and had such a fucking
luck that her brother was a neat punk who loves
to play bass (but never played in a punk band).
To make a long story short, he (and she) end up
moving down to Gothenburg. We start going to
gigs together and all of a sudden we stand
outside a rehearsal room in Kållered and started
Böset.
In 2015 we are a happy trio with elements of
St.Pauli-Fredrik on drums and in 2016 we will be
a fairly happy quartet when Sebbe comes in on
drums.
Tell us a little about each member, age, job,
family, band before and band on the side?
-Bishop is our guitar solo machine. He is like a
perfectly aged single malt. Lives in Mölndal
with a kid and company. Like all Gothenburgers,
he works for Gothenburg's tramways, has had a
skatepunk rehearsal room band. 431 represent.
The only one who takes the flex line to the
rehearsal room is Sebbe, as he has the age to do
so. He is an electrician, has 4-5 children and
is single. Living in Åsa, it should be nice.
Joey Banan works for the city,
puts talking in the mic, lives in Tuve,
is often thirsty and has a wife and two girls.
Dinos does not have to work, lives in Biskop and
have near to our restaurant and bar (Nu Dida).
He's a bastard on bass. They should know that.
The gods I mean.
I can hear very much old crust and then both
Swedish and English, I hear right? Was it better
before?
-Good that you hear it, you hear what you hear.
We listen to all kinds of punk and then we
really mean all kinds of punk from all over the
world. Some even appreciate black metal some old
hip-hop and others classic prog.
We have never under any circumstances said that
now we will play like this band, but we have
problems to play slowly.
Böset are you happy with the name? What is your
definition of bös! If the best band name had not
been taken, which name would you have chosed
then? I mean what is the best band name (besides
Böset then)?
-We are of course damn happy with the name as it
is damn good. As both Malin from Skrot /
Contorture and Andreas from Strul said, why has
no one taken that name before?
Had it not been Böset, "Lökpöse 47" would have
been nice. The Lyckstolps, Brötig agenda or why
not Kållerajders?
What is the best thing about playing live? Are
you missing live shows right now? Do you have
something booked or do you not dare to do it?
-The energy you get, the joy it gives, the
nervousness that is there in between. Then we
think it is just as important, if not more
important, to meet new people, organizers and
see new places.
We ignore the question about live gigs as it is
quite obvious that we miss it ...
Where is the best to play, where is the worst?
When it's worst what's it cause that it's bad,
organizers, audience or what?
-It is never bad to play, if we get the chance
to play, we take it regardless of time, place or
conditions. We give everything we have
regardless.
The only gigs that are bad are the ones is where
no people come and then we mean that it is bad
for the organizers who do not get enough money.
How is it to play this kind of punk in Sweden
today?
-It is completely okay. Positively. As good kick
now as then.
How would you describe your music in three words?
-Honest, simple and gothenburgstyled.
What does punk mean to you, is it just a word or
is it a lifestyle?
-Punk is do it yourself, punk is antifascism,
punk is respect for everyone's differences, punk
is solidarity and love, punk is to be a tired
daydreamer, punk is not to have friends, punk is
to have lots of friends, punk is to not want to
fit in because you do not want to fit in, punk
is to crash completely and isolate yourself in
your loneliness, punk is to be so strong that
you keep your head high. Punk is that you want
to crush all systems that do not want to respect
all previous points ..
By each according to ability, each according to
need.
Punks in all countries unite!
How do you see on downloads, mp3s and the like?
Does it feel like you're releasing a record if
it's only available digitally?
-Are someone still downloading music? Thought
everything was streamed today. If it is on the
internet, it should be possible to download it
for free! It's great and luxurious that it's so
easy to get your music out today by releasing it
digitally. But it is not possible to compare
with a real physical release.
How do you think it is to live in Sweden today,
politically? SD + M what do you say? How do you
think the government has handled the whole Covid
thing?
-Crap? Fuck the country lagom! The
Socialdemocrats pretend to be red but act blue
(as they always have done). The moderates have
put on their finest brown shirt and are trying
to kiss Adolf Åkerström and Ebba Braun and kick
on the elderly and take their land. Red-black
struggle is just right! Whether we managed
Covid-19 in a good way or bad is damn hard to
answer. Hopefully we have chosen the right path.
Are there any good bands in Sweden today? In
your hometown?
-There are so many good bands in Gothenburg ..
Vicious Irene, Sälkesauna, Strul, Contorture,
Giftigt Avfall, Mormor Kommer, Protestera,
Rättegång
(Are They Still There?) Nerve Shock,
Skrot, Regimen, Agrimonia, Anatomi 71, Fredag
den 13:e, Bottle Kids, Koma Asocial and a great
new band like is called Warför?
Do you play anything outside Sweden?
-We did a small European tour with our friends
Last Climb from Vimmerby 2019. We played in
Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. A
fantastic tour with a lot of punk, beer and
talking.
Other good bands from outside Sweden?
-Antimob (Grekland), Primer Regimen (Colombia),
Chain Cult (Grekland), Inepsy (Kanada) and Raw
Power (Italien).
Your lyrics, what are you influenced by? Never
in a language other than Swedish?
-We write about what has affected us and all
other comrades in everyday life. No, we will
never write in any language other than Swedish.
It's so damn good to listen to music when the
lyrics are in the band's native language it
feels more authentic then than when bands try to
be "international" and write in English.
Is there anything you will never write about? Or
are there no boundaries?
-If you have a chance to write, you should write
about things that liberate and help your
comrades not a lot of fucking piss about nothing
that is worth lifting the ass for.
Politics and music, do they always belong
together? Which is your most political song?
-Punk = Politics. We did a cover once, called
Jens, it was not sooo political.
Best political band/artist?
- What a difficult question. There are so many
good bands with political message. But to name a
few bands: Protestera, The System, Oi Polloi, No
Secutity, Avskum, Auktion The Partisans..
Do you think music can change someone's life,
then I mean lyrics etc?
-Absolutely! Music has always been a strong
weapon in the fight against power and injustice.
Music evokes fighting spirit, strength, joy,
sorrow and everything in between.
Your recordcovers are really cool on your
records, who makes them. Is it important to have
a cover that you understand which type of music
the band play? Which is your favorite albumcover
of all time?
-We have made the covers ourselves. Except from
the split cassette with Last Climb, it is
Crash-Mange who made the original image then we
added a little extra things to it. Johan Bjurén
made the inside of the split that we released
with Deny.
No, it is not something you should put any
energy on.
All albumcovers are nice.
Is it important to get out physical stuff? Vinyl
or CD or both? Is there a good record store near
you?
-It may not be important, but it's damn fun to
be able to release your music on some physical
media. Preferably vinyl & cassette. Linné
Skivbörs, Andra långs skivhandel and the good at
Kville that everyone knows.
Please tell me something really funny that
happened during your career on stage or behind
the scenes etc?
-We are too young to have some great stories
about travel and gigs.
How does the audience look like? Which type of
people comes? Do you miss any types of people?
-We play punk, it is usually punks who come to
our gigs. But everyone who appreciates our music
is of course welcome.
Please rank five favorite records, five favorite
concerts?
-We rank on, regardless of gig or record..Oi
Polloi, Antimob, Hårda Tider, Herätys, Inepsy,
Minor Threat, Skitkids, Sacrilege ..
Is it boring with interviews?
-No, it's good that someone wants to talk with
us.
If you could choose five bands from the history,
dead and alive to have a concert with your band,
what are the dream bands then?
-Right now we look forward to sharing the stage
with our friends in Deny & Last Climb because we
released a little new with them but
unfortunately could not have had a release gig
due to Corona.
Is music a good way to vent frustration and
become a kinder person? Are you angrier today
than you were young punks (You are in itself
young if you compare with me
😉?
-Yes, it's a good way to let go of both. We're
probably angrier now than we were when we were
young.?
Which is the question you never get, ask it and
answer it?
-You feels like a political band? Yes, we are a
political band.
Future plans for the band?
-Right now we are working on new material and
the plan is that we will hopefully release a 12
"this year and another split .. Then we hope to
get out on the roads again and play.
For yourself?
-We are a band, not a person.
Words of wisdom?
-Today someone is doing something.
Anything to add?
-I love you.
