Tjuvkoppla is really good, they are really fast playing, they are really tough musically but seem to be nice people, this interview was done in March 2025. It is an interview where many in the band have helped with the answers.

Wonderful band name, how did you come up with the name, you have probably been asked before but still want to hear the story about it?

- The name has a much longer history than the band. When my psyche collapsed in my 20s, I started taking psychotropic drugs. I thought then that the medications were like I was poaching myself to make an everyday life spin even though I was bad. I wrote a song about just that almost 20 years ago and recorded with my good friend Simon Mårtensson and the project was called Tjuvkoppla. Ever since then I've wanted to start a messy PV/HC band with that name and finally I met the right people for it!

In the picture in the record you don't look like you do and I think that's a fun idea, then you can see on the envelope that you play punk/hardcore, is it important to have a cover that shows what type of music you play?

-Yes, but a little bit of both. If you completely miss the mark and kind of do an Absolute Dance cover, you of course miss your entire audience. At the same time, it's not so much fun to just do another war or Crass cover. It should feel like home but different, like a really good charter hotel.

While we're on the subject of such covers, is there any record you have bought for a cool cover and been so disappointed in.....is there any record that has a cover that you really like that doesn't match the music at all?

-That was a bigger problem before the internet existed. When you stood at Sound Pollution or Mega Store and took a chance with the weekly allowance. Happened to get some fiery powermetal records home in the belief that I would listen to some tough black metal. Today, the opposite feels more common. I can think of several cases where you don't like the record but the cover is too deplorable to have out. Like Skitkids Onna for Pleasure which despite the cover and title is one of the world's best records. Then there are all the sloppy war motives with destructed people that you don't like to have as a t-shirt at the parents' meeting, no matter how good the band is.

You are not so much for long songs with long solos and other shit, how long is your longest song?

-No, we don ́t have the energy to do that. 2 minutes and 14 seconds is our longest song. But then outrot is like 1 minute so Chris Dodge would be okay with that.

Do the songs get longer or shorter when you play live?

-I would definitely say that the songs will be shorter as it clatters on even faster depending on how stressed Erik is that day.

If we go to your lyrics, it feels like you mix seriousness and humor in a good way? Is it important to get your opinions out in the texts? Do you think anyone cares about the lyrics?

-Most people don't read, but that can just as well be said about the music as well. I.e. most people will never hear the record. But if you're still going to write a text, you can try to do something a little well thought out. You have read them, for example. But yes, a good text should say something sensible. And if you're going to write about politics for people who probably already have the same opinions as yourself, it has to be with some kind of twist. A small twinkle in a small eye, an unclear angle that makes you jump and wonder what we really mean. Is it fake or real? Answer: yes.

Do you have any lyrics that have really touched you and maybe made you change something in your life?

-Stopped eating animal corpses because of a Drop Dead text once upon a time. Or yes, quit because it's completely sick but it sounds tougher if Bobby Otis caused it.

You mention nasal spray in some of the songs, I'm a nasal spray addict myself? What's the deal with Nasal Spray?

-The abuse of nasal sprays has followed me all my adult life, from the beginning it was not so much about free airways but more about anxiety management. I had a lot of panic attacks and noticed that if I took nasal spray, it felt easier to breathe. Then it became like some kind of placebo anxiety treatment. If I don't take nasal spray before I go to bed I'll go crazy!! But I'm also terrified that the nasal walls will collapse completely. Like in the movie The Fly when his teeth, ears and other things just come off. Terror dreams!! Nasal spray occupies a lot of my waking hours, I love it and hate it, it's the cause and solution to all problems.

Then there will be some songs about sun, charter etc. What is meant by Charter all year round?

-The charter here must represent the reward that is given in our current economy and that will make you have the strength to work the rest of the year in a, for many people, soul-killing job. The feeling is of course that you have to maximize your vacation and get out the whole year's pent-up need for freedom in like a week, a kind of "relaxation in panic". At the same time, the song presents the solution, i.e. socialism, as "charter all year", which of course is meant a bit ironically. Freedom may not be Billabong shorts and umbrella drinks, but equality and an end to alienation. And everyone will get a piece of chocolate on the pillow.

I'm not out so much at concerts nowadays but how does life live out at punk concerts in Gothenburg and in Sweden, is it a lot of people?. What ages are it that comes to watch you?

-It is probably the case that it is usually old men and ladies of our own age who show up. But the fact that the teenagers are conspicuous by their absence is probably mainly due to the fact that it should always be drunk on the gigs. Which in itself is because beer sales are the only way to make a punk gig go around, when cultural support is not something that is invested in. In the 90s, there were lots of youth centers that put on sober gigs at low prices, but it's worse with that today. Fängelset in Gothenburg, which is also an alcohol-free municipal venue, is a brilliant exception and when we play there, the audience is completely different. Then you have to hold on tightly to the neck of the femur to not be bedridden for a month, because that's where it goes away in the pit!

How else do you think it is to live in Sweden, with SD, KD, increased budget appropriations for the defense with increased electricity prices etc etc?

-Yes, what can you say. That capital sponsors the rise of fascism in large parts of the world is common knowledge and one can only hope that the pendulum will be able to swing back this time without requiring a major war for it. Since we have now stumbled into NATO, we will hardly get away as lightly as we did in the last century. You have to do the little you can. Get involved in the union, hide a refugee, talk politics with colleagues and write songs about charters.

You thank Johan at Flyktsoda for everything he has done, is he an important figure for punk in Sweden?

- Well it's awesome that he has played in both Operation and Protestera, so iconic punk bands that have made a big impression! But what is not quite as well known is his love for rap-metal and that he is insanely quick to choose Limp Bizkit or P.O.D songs when there is karaoke! He's a monster at rapping and likes to have three-quarter length on his shorts! When we were going to write our full-length album, we got an ultimatum; at least one song had to have a rap metal part, and so it was (the end of "Kroppslig frälsning"). Keep rollin Johan, I like that you stand up for a mocked genre!!

That you are releasing your first LP now, how does it feel, is it a dream come true? Was there any doubt that your music would work on a whole LP?

-Absolutely a dream one give out this asset on 12 inch pancake! And no, but that's probably why we've slowed down some parts even more and let the swing hang on a little extra just to avoid writing 48 songs and getting cramps in our elbows. But it's calm, it's sure to come too.

Is it important to get your music out physically do you think or would you feel that you have made a record if you only release it digitally?

- I think it feels so much fun to get it out physically! Always nice to have something physical to hold in your fist. Now that all music will soon be AI-generated (heard that Strul, Slan, Mob 47 and Böset have already started letting chat GPT write their new stuff), the physical format feels even more important to feel that something is real.

Is there any music that you listen to that you really don't think you would listen to?

- Yes! Listening to a lot of bluegrass, Americana, oldtime, Cajun and Irish folk music! There are both HC and PV who play in a banjo or a little harmonica here and there. Sick weak for ABBA too.

Do you buy a lot of records yourself? What's the latest thing you bought?

- Not excessively much anymore. There are plenty of 40-plus-year-olds in Gothenburg who are better than us at this "hobby". Latest purchase for me was Chien's "Trendy Junky"

Which record label is it that you can always trust and that there is always quality on their music?

-Flyktsoda, duh! Slap-a-ham, 625 Thrashcore, of course. Otherwise, you can always grab delicacies from Quarantined, Iron Lung, Here and Now, Rsandhateapeproductions, Coxhina, Awesome and Ordinary etc etc.

Is there any really good bands in Sweden that you want to highlight and that need a little more advertising?

- Bleachdrinker, Laugh Track, Pessimiser, Brainwasher, Wipeout, Ressentiment, Noll Koll, Cool’s Eternal, Communalviolence, Lingchi, Prescriptiondeath, Järnbörd, Sepsis, or Böset, Arvingarna. I'm sure I'll forget a lot!

What's the best thing about playing live?

-To behave while trying to create some kind of emotional bond with those you play for. To be a drunk clown in a ditch stuck up on a stage and fall into the ditch comes a little later.

What is the strangest thing that has happened during a gig with you?

-Violence against potted plants, swallowing of snus often occurs. Having the amplifier on standby and not understanding why nothing makes noise is also a common dinner to eat. Has, pepper pepper, gone pretty smooth without any major problems so far. Johan fainted 80% once because he hit his head in Erik's crash symbal at one point of pep, played wrong and woke up from his slumber and played a completely different song. We´re going to play at Obscene Extreme this summer so ask us after that!

Which other bands are you compared to and what is the strangest thing you have been compared to?

-We have probably not been compared with so many bands. The strangest thing I can think of is Disrupt. More commonly, we are seen as some kind of ambassador for the powerviolence genre, as it is still relatively narrow. That is, people comment on things like "oh fuck, is this what is powerviolence? Like when you don't understand anything?".

Do you think reviews are important, how can they help you move forward? Do you take it to heart if someone thinks it's crap?

-Absolute! Always fun with a back thump if someone likes. Things you lie and sneak-google sometimes to balance out negative feelings in everyday life, but there are too few reviews out there so it's getting boring to read the three that are on the internet over and over again. We are happy to hand out free copies of the album in return for a promise to pay tribute to us a little online! Cold reviews are not as fun, rather that someone really hates it in such cases.

Tell us a little about each member, age, work, band next to or before and something secret about each person?

- Erik: 40 years old, drummer, occupational therapist/educator, banjo player, has a huge TV, likes to listen to birdsong on P1.

Johan, the youngest in the band with horse lengths. 31 weak years, works as a machine operator in a spice factory. Mostly played Spazz covers in the bedroom and had two bands before that split themselves halfway. Has a shin shaped like a flute by 24 years as a wannabe skate pro.

Oskar 45 years. Engineer. Plays in The Bitter and Sick and Die Alones. Countless bands earlier in life. Agree with everyone who participates in Ring P1.

Anders. Archivist and bibliophile. Roared in Bingo, Lars Adaktusson and Eskatologia. The last charter went to Croatia. I think the kids may have peed in the pool.

Sanne 38 years. Store Manager. She thinks everything that stresses Erik is fun.

Interviews is there anything you like? Is there too much of that thing or too little?

- No fuck, let us get them! We take every chance we get to talk about ourselves. Preferably in the third person.

- Why are you Gothenburg's best band?

- If you need to ask, unfortunately we cannot help you.

The weirdest question you've ever been asked? (except for this one)

-Don't you play in Hammerfall? (Anders was asked outside the rehearsal room once)

Futureplans for the band?

-Play live as much as the puzzle of life allows. Not entirely easy to get away from share ownership, managerial jobs, positions of trust, small and large children, dog walks, house renovation, drainage and everyday life in public service. But this summer we play at Obscene Extreme and Antisocial Festival.

Future plans for yourself?

-Erik: There is a rumor that Glenn Hysén has previously lived in the apartment I recently moved to. Planning to investigate the veracity of this claim.

Oskar: Get more basses and write even tougher riffs for the next record.

Sanne: Find the meaning of life and continue to be relatively kind to those who deserve it.

-Get involved in the union, eat pickled cucumber with the vodka and book us to your local sunkhak! .

- Nice punk t-shirts can appear where you least expect it!! When I was in my teens on a Greek holiday island, I stood and looked among tourist chicks in a shop by the beach. In the midst of the sun and glitter, another motive appeared among the t-shirts: DS-13! Bought another one with palm trees instead, but funny anyway!
