Illvilja has a hardcore/crust sound which is not like any other band in Sweden I think. You get a doomsday feeling when you listen to them....in a positive way. Here is a short interview done in June 2025.

Tell us a little bit about when and how you started?

-In 2017, Illvilja was started with a vision of creating blackend crust.

Tell me a little about each member's age, band before and next and something really quirky about each member? 

-We are all around 40. All of them have played or play in other bands. A few bands to mention, M:40, Brännnärkt, To an end.

There are carpenters, pizza bakers, dog whisperers and other skills in the band. Who is who you have to guess!

Illvilja is a really good name for a punk/hardcore band, how did you come up with this? 

-As I said, a really good name! It just pops up during some "important" band meeting.

You play hardcore but some nice way do you have your own sound, what do you think it depends on that you have it?

-Hardcore we would probably not say ourselves. Blackend crust that floats back and forth between d-beat and mangle.

If you were to describe your music in three words, what words would it be?

-Anxiety, personal, dark

Your lyrics may not be the most cheerful, where does the inspiration come from?

 -A lot from life, society and the world.

You have done records like Mörkret, Döden, which more records will we get with you?

-Secret, but more to come!

Is it Kim who is in the band who makes the fantastic drawings?

-Yep, fantastic to have an artist of that caliber so close.

To play this kind of music in Sweden, how is it today?

-Appreciated, however, we are very inactive when it comes to looking for gigs.

When you play live, what is your strength?

-Energy and empathy.

Can you tell me something really fun which happened during a gig with you?

-One of the singers managed a booze-filled gig hanging with a finger in the hooks in the ceiling.

You have two singers in the band, is it they who do the lyrics too or who does them?

-Yes, they write the lyrics. On the first album Livet we have some lyrics that are written by another person.

Your lyrics are quite poetic....wouldn't it be possible for you to do a straight political song?

-Tänd eldarna is a political song.

Or make a song about some funny and trivial thing?

-Nope, there are other bands which do it better.

Do you play a lot abroad as well or how is it?

-If so, where is best? There have been a lot. Obscene Extreme Festival was incredibly fun and professional!

What is the favorite song to play live? What is the song that the audience wants to hear?

-The funniest is all the new songs. The audience favorite is probably Krossa spegeln.

Doing interviews, is it just a necessary evil or is it fun?

-Always fun but hard to answer well!

I can imagine that you have received some reviews over the years, which is the strangest comparison you have received?

-No one I remembers right now.

Do you have any favorite wines?

-All wines over 14%. (a bit funny because I was going to ask about favorite sites but ended up with wines but it was a fun answer)

Is it important to release physical records?

-Yes, it feels more real

Do you buy a lot of records yourself?

-Some do.

-There are so many who have meant so much. I (Niklas) choose a few

How do you think it is to live in Sweden today? What is best and what is worst?

-Peace. Injustice, worst

-Left Hand of Darkness, Svarta Havet

You are located at Halvfabrikat, what is the best thing about that company?

-Danne is a good old man!

On the new album Döden you have a really nice lyrics booklet... Looks exclusive... How did the discussions go because

I can imagine that there is a bit of work behind it?

-Extremely much talk and ideas to create this booklet. We wanted to give fans a full concept with music, lyrics and images.

The futureplans for the band?

-Get better at searching gigs and keep creating new songs.
